This is the web presence of Notes And Pages, a boutique site built around providing support and assistance to those small businesses which require expertise around small/static website design, content and technical writing.

This site has been built using Obsidian, GitHub, Astro/Starlight and GitHub Pages.

N&P is a sole trader one-man band operation based out of New Zealand with over 20 years experience working in public and private sector, contracting, plus sole trader freelance work through agencies such as Upwork.

Most of that time was spent working for large corporate clients assembling content within the manufacturing sector.

The truth of the matter is this. Building a bespoke website will not cost you thousands of dollars. If you have received a quote with a big budget, you’ve probably been dazzled by big smiles, corporate jargon and bullshit. In today’s technology age where everything is AI driven or template based, your requirements could be wrapped uo within a very tight and manageable budget. As an aside, this website cost nothing to host publicly online. The cost was really in the development time to build out.

Keeping your requirements simple will go a long way to getting your online presence off the ground quickly and without fuss.

I have observed many websites over the years and have witnessed everything from the bizarre over-designed ‘vanity’ websites from WordPress, to bare metal 1 or 2 page websites which are effectively nothing more than landing pages. Mostly it’s about understanding what the client needs, even if the client sometimes can’t articulate the technical aspects of their requirements.

At the moment, I am keeping my client work to the design of smaller static websites rather than something more complex.

Coming from a small business mindset myself, I understand the struggles that many have encountered over the years as technology has advanced. I won’t say improved, because in many cases it hasn’t.
